Kumbartcho is the local Aboriginal word for Hoop Pine (Araucaria cunninghamii). The Hoop Pine is the focus of the Shires name, emblem and logo some magnificent specimen trees can be found at the Kumbartcho Sanctuary, which is set on 6 hectares of natural habitat, including a boundary with the South Pine River.
